What Other Libraries Can I Use?
We anticipate that many Challenger staff and students will want to use libraries outside the five Challenger Learning Resource Centres/Libraries. Reasons for this may range from convenience of location to access to specialist resources. There are reciprocal arrangements in place with other TAFE libraries and also some universities.
TAFE Libraries / Learning Resource Centres
Challenger students can join and borrow from all TAFEWA libraries by taking a card of introduction (obtainable from your campus Library) and their current Student ID card to the TAFE Library they wish to join. Please note that you will not be able to use the Internet or to access scholarly databases at other TAFE libraries.
University Libraries
You can use the collections at any of the university libraries in Western Australia, although you will not be able to access scholarly databases or borrow resources. You should be able to photocopy resources so long as this is within fair dealing under the Copyright Act (usually an article or a chapter in a book or journal (or 10%)).
Special arrangements permitting borrowing of resources exist with:
Murdoch University Library
Challenger TAFE has a reciprocal arrangement with Murdoch University whereby Challenger TAFE students can use Murdoch University Library at both the South Street & Rockingham campuses and borrow 2 books. To join Murdoch University Library you are required to get a card of introduction from your Challenger TAFE Library and take this and your current Challenger Student ID card to Murdoch University Library.
Edith Cowan University Library
TAFE students can borrow from the ECU Libraries and are required to take a card of introduction and their Library ID card to one of the ECU Libraries.
Reciprocal arrangements are currently being negotiated with other universities.
Public Libraries
Many public libraries provide access to excellent full-text databases and you should visit your local library to enquire.
Interlibrary Loans
You can request resources from some other libraries (excludes other TAFEWA libraries) via interlibrary loan, however these will incur charges, which are passed on to the requester. The standard interlibrary loan rate is $13.20. It is more cost effective and quicker to visit a reciprocal library and borrow the item.
To find out more about interlibrary loans ask at the Enquiries desk.
