About the Centre

Challenger TAFE's Automotive Technology Skills Centre provides innovative and flexible training that addresses the range of skill shortages across the Light Automotive Industry at its state-of-the-art facility. This ground-breaking training centre puts Challenger TAFE at the forefront of VET in Light Automotive Industry Training.

Situated in the heart of Kwinana – a prime strategic location in the rapidly expanding Southern Metropolitan region – the Automotive Technology Skills Centre is industry-driven with a strong focus on meeting the current and future employment needs within the region. The Centre has been established as part of a collaborative arrangement with various stakeholders including the Automotive Industry, Gilmore College, the Town of Kwinana, and the Kwinana Industries Council.

Challenger TAFE is a significant supporter of lifelong learning, and the Campus is proudly co-located with Gilmore College, a highly-valued strategic education partner. The Automotive Technology Skills Centre provides people within the community the chance to engage or re-engage with learning and skills development, with an emphasis on career pathways in the automotive industry.

The technology-driven Centre has an impressive streetscape with a corporate look and feel, consistent with the style of any large and modern automotive dealership. The working environment is simulated with a state-of-the-art automotive repair workshop, an adjoining gallery space that incorporates a service reception shopfront, specialist learning rooms and support spaces, and an exhibition space leading into general learning rooms.

The aim of the Centre if to provide training that meets the varied needs of industry, using:

  • flexible/self-paced learning opportunities
  • online and interactive training
  • on-the-job training and assessment
  • hands-on, project-based learning
  • small group tutorial support
  • work placement opportunities

And incorporating:

  • general learning spaces
  • specialist training rooms
  • DEGEM lab
  • exhibition area
  • student/staff amenities
  • corporate training space for industry

Environmental Sustainability Focus

All training at Challenger TAFE has a strong focus on environmental sustainability. All automotive products are recycled, and staff have a keen interest in reducing our carbon footprint, by teaching the students to maintain automotive equipment in excellent condition, thereby reducing emissions.
