About the Centre

The WA Horticulture and Environmental Science Skills Centre delivers specialised training, research and development for industry, communities and government in environmentally-customised primary industries, natural resource management, environmental management, laboratory technology, pest management, water industry and water conservation services.

It is affiliated with the National Centre for Sustainability and embeds sustainability principles through all areas of activity in accordance with the WA State Sustainability Strategy and the WA State Water Strategy.

The Centre covers a broad portfolio of:

  • Animal Studies
  • Agriculture
  • Irrigation
  • Horticulture
  • Conservation and Land Management
  • Pest Management
  • Floristry
  • Laboratory Operations
  • Environmental Science
  • Environmental Management Systems
  • Waste Management
  • Water Industry Operations
  • Specialist short courses

Rural Operations and Wool training is delivered by the College's Wool Technology Training Centre.

Our training programs can cater to the individual, a business organisation as a whole, groups of people with similar skills requirements, a group of enterprises with common interests (eg Environmental Management Systems activities), and industry associations working in training partnerships, with local government, regional, schools and community groups.

These programs are often based on nationally-recognised industry training packages and can be individual project-based courses, short courses, workshops, traineeships, or apprenticeships, and part-time or full-time.

They can also be:

  • assessable as well as non-assessable, depending on program and participants, or
  • a combination of assessable, non-assessable, subsidised and unsubsidised segments.

The Centre also offers the use of industry-specific training consultants, facilitated group learning, workshops, seminars, customised short courses, project-based skills development, and a wide range of training needs analyses and recognition of prior learning services, as well as combinations of some or all of the above.

We include work placements in much of our training and welcome organisations wishing to host students.

Please feel free to contact the Centre to discuss the specific skill needs of either yourself or your organisation.
