INCENTIVES & ALLOWANCES FOR Employers

Commonwealth Allowances
Employers hiring an apprentice or trainee may be eligible for a range of Commonwealth Government and State Government incentives. Examples of employer incentives and personal assistance are:
Incentive Payments
Commencement
• STANDARD
$1,250 incentive for employer who commences a trainee in Certificate II; or $1,500 incentive for an employer who commences an apprentice or trainee in Certificate III training or above.
• MATURE AGED WORKER (AGED 45 OR MORE)
$750 can be claimed be claimed by an employer who commences an eligible Certificate II and higher Australian Apprentice who is a disadvantaged person aged 45 or more.
• SCHOOL BASED APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPS – ADDITIONAL
An additional incentive payment of $750 may be paid to an employer who employs a person involved in a school based program between the Certificate II to IV level. A further retention payment of $750 can be claimed by employers who continue to employ the trainee after they graduate year 12 level.
• INNOVATION
$1,100 special incentive for an employer who employs a person in an eligible innovation training package qualification at the Certificate III or IV level.
• STANDARD RECOMMENCEMENT
A recommencement payment of $750 is available for employers recommencing a previously registered Trainee or Apprentice at Certificate III or higher.
Completion
• STANDARD
Employers of Trainees or Apprentices who successfully complete Certificate III or above may be eligible to receive up to $2,500.
• MATURE AGED WORKER – SPECIAL COMPLETION (AGED 45 OR MORE)
$750 can be claimed be claimed by an employer on the successful completion of a Certificate 2 or above.
Higher Technical Skills Incentives (effective from 1 January 2007) A $1,500 incentive payment will be available to employers whose workers intend to undertake Diploma and Advanced Diploma level qualifications. The initial industry fields considered may involve: Electrical, Gas, Mining, Oil Drilling, Automotive and Aeronautical engineering.
Other Wage Subsidies
• DISABILITY
This assistance may be obtained by eligible employers who employ a trainee or apprentice with a disability. Approximate wage subsidy paid is $104.30 per week or pro-rata for a part time employee. An additional subsidy of up to $5,000 may be available if workplace modifications are necessary.

• INDIGENOUS
This wage assistance provides a subsidy to employers who provide a traineeship or apprenticeship opportunity to eligible Indigenous job seekers. Click here for more information and application forms.
State Allowances
BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TRAINING FUND (BCITF)
The BCITF provides grants to employers who directly employ apprentices or trainees to assist with the cost of their training:
- Up to $13,750 for apprentices
- Up to $6,600 for trainees
To qualify for grants the employers must be actively and directly involved in on site construction/installation or on-site fabrication work in the building and construction industry.
